Let’s be honest — adulting hits harder when you’re a dad.
Bills, tuition, gas, groceries, and the occasional iced coffee request from your daughter (na ₱160 ah!).
But over the years, I’ve picked up a few simple habits that help me stay financially sane — without feeling like I’m depriving my family of fun.
1. The “₱100 Rule”
If it’s under ₱100 and won’t improve your life after 24 hours, skip it.
You’d be surprised how much those random Shopee add-to-carts and convenience store snacks pile up. I’ve saved thousands just by being mindful.
2. Automate the Boring Stuff
Bills, savings, and investments — automate them.
That way, you’re not tempted to skip. Plus, it removes the stress of remembering deadlines. More brain space for dad jokes.
3. Cook More, Order Less
Cooking at home saves a lot — and bonus, it’s a bonding activity.
My kids love helping out in the kitchen. Sure, it’s messier, but it’s also priceless time spent together (and cheaper than takeout).
4. Use Rewards Cards Like a Pro
If you’re paying anyway, make your money work for you. Points, cashback, miles — these small perks add up. I once got a free flight using nothing but grocery points.
5. Set “Fun Money” Aside
Don’t go all hardcore on budgeting. Leave a little “fun fund” for yourself.
Whether it’s a motorcycle accessory or a movie night, you deserve small rewards for keeping everything running smoothly.
Daddy’s Note:
Being smart with money isn’t about being cheap — it’s about being prepared.
At the end of the day, what matters most is giving your family security, experiences, and a happy, stress-free dad.
